Yacht y Golf Club Paraguayo

A little bit of history…

The club started with a surface area of a little more than 3 hectares, which were within 20 areas reserved for the first 9 holes of the golf course. Today, the Yacht & Golf Club Paraguayo owns a property of 54 hectares, on which its elegant facilities are distributed.

A group of individuals and companies —known as the best professionals with the highest reputation in the country— specializing in different construction fields, were hired. Each worked in their own field, but all of them had the same goal: to create wonderful facilities. Indeed they were and they still are wonderful. Indeed it was, and it is until today.

The first clubhouse was built with the secretariat and Council chamber, the Social Bar (today Luis María Zubizarreta Hall), the Concorde Restaurant; all of these were built on the upper level, with the large terrace overlooking the river, where the first large parties were celebrated. The large pool suspended on 11-meter pillars stood out as a large elevated tank. The area where now stands the Tatakua was much smaller, and was designated for service staff. The Primavera Snack Bar is also a part of the facilities that were built in those days, under the name of Bar Golfista, and worked as a fast food store.

The first 9 holes of the golf course have the hillock that rises toward the 3rd Green as a key element, together with the lush trees in which mangos and pines thrived. This beautiful hillock was predominantly sandy; this is not a very good feature to settle a golf course, but the landscape was so beautiful, they had to find a way to adapt it. Thus we have the 1st to the 9th holes, beautiful and challenging.

But more tenacity was required for the other holes below, mainly because the area was the river itself. In two attempts, filling was completed with thousands of cubic meters of sand and soil, just to enjoy the 10th to 18th holes, strongly dominated by the waters of the Paraguay River, making the Yacht Golf Club Paraguayo so extraordinary, since actually it is formed by two very different courses in a single one.

The Yacht & Golf Club Paraguayo was ready; the first months of the year 1981 went by; facilities were ready to be opened and enjoyed…

Tuesday, May 12, 1981

For the official opening, a simple and sober ceremony was scheduled.
The President of the Republic of Paraguay, General Alfredo Stroessner, was invited, and he attended along with many other dignitaries.

The Hotel of the Yacht

In 1987, the Hotel of the Yacht & Golf Club Paraguayo was opened and available, thanks to the decisive participation of Mr. Verlin Gale Ray,
who —with remarkable faith and trust— did not hesitate to allocate the significant investment required by the project.

The Hotel, which takes the Yacht’s name in its denomination,
soon became a distinctive sign of Paraguay; from the beginning, the Club/Resort was faithful to the philosophy of a different, elegant and innovative style, the YACHT STYLE.

2nd Stage of Construction

As a part of the additions made in what might be called the second stage of construction, the impressive Galas Hall stands out with its 1,073 square meters, connecting virtually and physically Club and Hotel, and can accommodate up to 1,300 guests at a banquet.

The Green Hall is one of the new restaurants built in the Hotel, heart of the complex, followed by the Tatakua Restaurant, with the best steaks in town, the original high-tech nightclub, and the splendid rooms and luxury suites.

The Beloved Mango Tree

The beloved mango tree can be seen in the oldest and newest photographs; the silent witness to the history of the Club received a deserved tribute: the second clubhouse with its surroundings take its name.
The building El Mango was the subject of the 3rd phase of construction of the Yacht & Golf Club; it was opened in 1989, coinciding with two of the biggest sporting events played at the Club, the World Youth Cup in tennis, and Los Andes Cup in golf.

To Compete is to Live

The promotion and development of sports activity was —from the beginning of the Yacht & Golf Club Paraguayo,
a preeminent goal to set programs and event calendars.
Sporting activity at all levels was always important and relevant in the Yacht.
Symbol of sports support is the club’s flag: the blue symbolizes the yachting, the white symbolizes tennis, and green symbolizes golf,
a sports trilogy that characterizes the club

Tennis

The complex hosted several Davis Cups. In 1987, Paraguay competes in the World Group with the United States; this match was played at the Central Court.
In October 1989, the World Youth Cup was played at the Yacht. Also, the Yacht hosted several South American junior and senior tourneys.
